Our family shared in two signficant promotional events in New Mexico in August. The first one, on August 19th, was a train ride from Santa Fe to Lamy, NM, and back. The purpose is to establish a non-threatening environment where kids who are available for adoption can meet families who are looking for kids to adopt. We were invited as special guests. The cars in the train are rather unique as they are older and each has its own points of interest and history. The train traveled about 20 miles per hour. Several of us spent time in an open car, where we stood outside and enjoyed the Lord's natural beauty of the landscape as we met and got acquanted with various individuals and families. Upon arrival at Lamy, they served us all a very nice lunch and had lots of games and prizes for the kids. Then after a very nice afternoon, we enjoyed the return train ride back to Santa Fe.
The 2nd event, on August 25th, was the Heart Gallery Adoption Celebration. It was designed to promote the Heart Galleries, not only for New Mexico, but nationwide. There is a movement, that started in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by Diane Granito, to see professional photos of adoptable children brought to the public so that they can see these precious kids face-to-face. We were invited to speak. There were a variety of speakers. We were on the platform with various officials and guests, such as Mayor David Coss, of Santa Fe, Steve Stucker, co-anchor of channel 4 for Albuquerque-Santa Fe, another fine, adoptive family, along with other notable officials. It was a very uplifting celebration which was obviously appreciated by the crowd in attendance. Afterward there was a party at a local art gallery where the official formation and celebration of the Heart Gallery of America, Inc. was introduced and launched [See http://www.heartgalleryofamerica.org/]. Several people from various states were represented as delagates and shared various stories of success. Overall, we were glad to be a part of this event and left for home that evening thankful for the Lord's guidance of our own participation in foster care and adoption.
If you would like for me to share in your local church or organization regarding the need for foster care and adoption here in New Mexico, please feel free to contact me or to have your pastor or leader do so. Many kids are anxiously awaiting their 'forever' homes and families!
